Akismet comes along with worpdress installation and you will need their API key to use it on your website.

Many high PR or high traffic blogs use Akismet to filter out spam track backs and ping backs.

If you are a frequent web surfer, internet learner or a bloggers, the chances are you visit a lot of websites and comment a lot to interact with the article writer. It can be to discuss the topic further, to ask questions or simply to express your thought. But Akismet is not smart enough to understand that you are not a spammer.

If you keep commenting continously, the chances are Akismet will start catching your comments for moderating.

Whenever you comment on a blog that is using Akismet, your comment is submitted to Akismet web server that runs hundreds of tests on it to give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. If you get more downs, chances are your comments are being considered as spam by Akismet.

Many a times when you comment, it does not show up on the blog post, that means your comments are being held for mod by Akismet. You will need to visit their website and contact them and let them know you are not a spammer. You might need to give your name, ip address and the url that you use while commenting to get out of block list.

You need to convince them that you are not randomly commenting on blogs. When you mail them, ask them for a reply and you will probably get a warning message to be careful next time where and how you comment.

If your website has a good Page Rank then it does not necessarily mean that your website gets a high traffic. Many websites who has Alexa rank in 10,000,000′s can have a good Page Rank.

Similarly a good Alexa rank does not mean your website get traffic from all relevant sources, but Alexa can be closely accurate with their ranking system. Traffic sources of your website must be clean and relevant to get a better Page Rank.

1. Keyword Research:

Use keyword research tool from Google or Overture for Yahoo to find your competition. It gives you an estimated traffic or searches globally or locally which you can use to better optimize your website. Always focus on niche your website is in and choose relevant keywords for it. This will help you get relevant organic search engine traffic, those visitors that are actually interested in your website and content reducing bounce rate.

2. New and informative material:

Search engines need unique content to list for searchers, hence a website must have a good unique content with SEO titles and headings.

But unique content does not necessarily mean your website will get a high traffic unless your topic is based on current trends. So it is better to have topic currently trending in market but with a unique information about it.

3. Clean codes and Design:

Verify the CSS and HTML of your website from CSS and W3C validators. Make sure it has no errors and it passes their standards. It is also important that your website has a good design. Even Google Adsense program have started to consider a good website design for Publishers.

4. Search Engine Submission:

To increase your page rank you must have a good number of back links from other established websites. Do blog commenting but do not spam or else you will get blocked by Akismet. Then you will not be able to post any comments on a blog. Always be genuine and informative while commenting. Most importantly, always read their articles. That would give you some extra information in similar niches. Ask for a reciprocal link exchange with other sites in same niche.

6. Join forums to get traffic:

Again, do not spam. Forums are a good place to share knowledge, help others and learn new things. It can also spread a word about your website or service under signature links. There are some top forums you could join and be a part of to gain traffic and learn. Back links from other high PR websites will help increase your website’s Page Rank.

7. Directory Submission:

Submit your website link to some of the free non reciprocal and high PR directories. That would give you good number of back links. Don’t try DMOZ unless your website is fully complete and meets their minimum standards and criteria. It is not that easy to get into DMOZ, you need a unique content with some good traffic to get listed in there. It is a human edited directory and they accept sites that are useful or interesting for surfers.

8. Article Submission:
